The Outcome Prediction In Subfertility (OPIS) calculator is the peer-reviewed prognostic tool developed by the University of Aberdeen using UK HFEA data. It's used by clinicians and researchers, and gives a validated per-cycle and cumulative live birth prediction. We recommend running our estimate alongside OPIS for the fullest picture.

How the estimate works

Female age is the single strongest predictor of IVF success. We combine age-band cumulative live birth rates from the UK HFEA / OPIS models, ESHRE European ART registry reports and US SART / CDC national data to create a blended baseline.
Duration of infertility, cause, BMI and previous pregnancy or IVF history then adjust that baseline up or down, based on the effect sizes reported in the OPIS (McLernon 2022) and SART prognostic models.
The result is your estimated cumulative chance of a live birth after 1, 2, 3, 4, 5 and 6 complete cycles.
Real-world outcomes vary widely between clinics, countries and patients — this is a guide, not a clinical prediction.
