What is the Fertility Timeline Planner?+
The Fertility Timeline Planner is a free visual tool that maps every stage of an IVF cycle onto real calendar dates — from baseline investigations and stimulation through to egg collection, embryo transfer (fresh or frozen), beta hCG test, dating scan and beyond. You enter one anchor date (e.g. period start or transfer date) and the planner draws your full timeline.
How long does an IVF cycle take from start to finish?+
A typical IVF cycle takes about 4–6 weeks from the start of stimulation to the beta hCG pregnancy test. Baseline investigations before starting can add another 4–8 weeks. Stimulation is usually 10–12 days, egg collection follows around day 12, a fresh transfer is typically day 5 after collection, and the beta hCG test is about 10 days after transfer. Frozen embryo transfer (FET) cycles run on a separate 3–5 week timeline.
When is egg collection in an IVF cycle?+
Egg collection (also called egg retrieval) typically happens around day 12 of stimulation, about 35–36 hours after the trigger shot. Your clinic's protocol may adjust this by a day or two based on how your follicles respond.
When can I take a pregnancy test after embryo transfer?+
The blood pregnancy test (beta hCG) is normally taken around 9–11 days after a day-5 embryo transfer, or 11–14 days after a day-3 transfer. Home pregnancy tests are usually only reliable from around the same point — early testing can produce false negatives.
Is my IVF timeline exactly the same as this planner shows?+
The planner uses typical IVF cycle timings. Your clinic's protocol may vary by a few days depending on your response to medication, the type of transfer (fresh vs FET) and any additional steps like PGT-A testing. Always follow the exact dates your clinic gives you.
Can I use this if I'm doing a frozen embryo transfer (FET)?+
Yes. Choose 'frozen embryo transfer (FET)' in the planner and enter your planned transfer date — the tool will map preparation, transfer, beta hCG, dating scan and pregnancy milestones from there.
